Church History

New Mount Zion Church began in 1980 in the home of Superintendent Jessie J. Smith, Jr.  As a young evangelist, he was called to start a church and through prayer was given the name, New Mount Zion.

New Mount Zion has been a saving station for many souls and a launching pad for many in ministry.

Active Departments and Committees at the church include the Usher Board, Music Department, Youth Department, Sunshine Band, Sunday School Department, Men's Department, Women's Department, YWCC (Young Women Christian Council), and Retreat Committee.

The annual Vacation Bible School is a neighborhood outreach that blesses the community.  The church also provides a clothing giveaway several times a year.

New Mount Zion is a church known for its love of people.  The church is also active in the Eastern Missouri First Jurisdiction under the leadership of Bishop R.J. Ward and Mother Theresa Bolden.
